2003 Tournament Results
Balsam May 28th, 2003
What a beautiful weekend! After two bad weather weekends the Lord blessed
the anglers at Balsam Lake with a gorgeous practice day Friday and an even
better day on Saturday. The sun was shining, temperatures were in the 70’s
and the winds were light. The Keller team of Rob and Dave topped all Wisconsin
anglers with 11.60 lbs. They also had a 3.52 bass for big bass honors. Awesome
job! Rob said they fished main lake points in the morning for pre spawners.
Later they fished Rattltraps over stumps and old grass beds. They also fished
tubes and plastics over the stumps. They caught about three limits with very
few short fish. The day was especially exciting for Dave because he caught
the big bass with less that an hour to go and it was his first tournament
ever. Way to go!
Rob would like to thank his sponsors Warners Dock and Quality Underground
for sponsoring him. Second place went to Dave and Gary Hoard who were sight
fishing with weightless plastics. Their weight was 10.24 lbs. They caught 15-18
keepers. Finishing third was Wayne Camper and Ordean “Ole” Hallanger. They
had five fish for 9.85 lbs. They caught fish all day on worms and stayed in
water 8 feet and less. It was great to see so many people fishing with family
members and that’s what it’s all about.
Dick Swenson, the owner of Dwellings Realty, was not only gracious enough
to speak to the 150 people present at the banquet, but he paid for the spaghetti
dinner as well. He did a wonderful job of presenting the gospel while mixing
in humor and fishing stories. For me it was great to have the meeting at Wapogassett
Bible Camp because that is where I first met the Lord, my wife, and it was
nice to finally meet all of you. We were blown away by all the people there
and set a record with 23 boats fishing the Wisconsin Division.
Let’s keep it up and have even more boats for the next tourney on the Mississippi
River pools 4-5 and Lake Pepin on June 28.The pre tournament meeting will
be at the Pepin United Methodist Church # 715 442- 3191 at 6pm. We will blast
off for the tourney at the Pickle Factory launch # 715 442-4400 a block and
1/2 from Hwy. 35. You can make reservations to stay at the Bumble Bee Inn
and Campground at 715 442-2592 or The Pepin Hotel at 715 442-2012.
