Bjornsons win and increase their lead in the overall points race! The father/son
team of Darrin and Josh Bjornson caught 5 smallmouth weighing 14.12lbs. to
win the July 13 tournament on Lake Wissota. They now hold a 7-point lead in
the overall points race with two tournaments to go. Their biggest bass was
caught by 13-year-old Josh on a Senko and it weighed 3.86 lbs. That fish also
took the 2nd big bass prize. Most of their fish came in the morning in 0-6
feet near big rocks. They caught 3 limits on soft plastics. Super job! Placing
2nd was Wes Haney and Barry Rettke with 5 smallies weighing 12.66 lbs. Haney
and Rettke caught their fish in shallow water with rocks and weeds. They caught
fish all day and had a total of 6 keepers and 7 short fish. They used ISG
tubes and jigs and jerkbaits. With their strong finish they are now 7 points
back(2nd) in the points race. Third place went to the Hansens. Mike and Steve
are another father/son team and they caught a 5 fish limit of smallies weighing
10.55 lbs. They fished tubes and senkos on the steep drops. Their best times
were between 9:30-12:30 and the best depth was 5-10 feet. Big bass went to
Paul Laube and Ramie Ramsden and it was a 4.24 smallmouth!
We all enjoyed a fine lasagna and salad dinner at Crossroads Church. A big
thanks to Pastor Jeff Nath and the people at the church for their great hospitality.
I believe we were all blessed by the words spoken to us by Terry Moulton.
Moulton is the owner of Mouldy’s Archery and Tackle and maker of the Hawg
Wobbler muskie bait. Bobby Eads, vice president of FOM, who told us the Regional
Championship will be on Sandusky Bay in Ohio, also joined us. Overall, it
was a tough bite on the water for a lot of the 18 teams, but catching quantities
of fish should get easier at our next tourney on Lake Wapogassett on July
26. The meeting will be at Lake Wapogassett Bible Camp (same as for our Balsam
Lake tourney) at 6pm on July 25. The camp is on the north end of Bear Trap
Lake, which connects to Wapo. Please let me know if you are fishing and be
on time for the meeting. At this time there are no spaces to stay at the camp,
but you can try the Camelot at 715 268-8194 or The Forrest Inn at 715 268-4100.
Since there will only be one week in between that tourney and our final one
there will not be a newsletter sent out before Bone Lake. The Bone Lake meeting/banquet
will be at the north end public launch at 6pm on Aug. 1. See rules 17-19 in
the flyer about it being a regional qualifying event. Triton boat owner’s
bonus $ will also be available to the top Triton finisher. Special thanks
to my local sponsors: Amiot Financial Group, Crosstown Covenant Church, Stamina
